How about year-round recreation in a mountain playground? Steamboat is best known for alpine skiing and snowboarding through the aspens in its famous dry, light powder snow. There are over 3,600 feet of vertical spread over nearly 3,000 skiable acres, serviced by 25 lifts. This huge mountain offers exhilarating mogul fields, inviting tree runs, sparkling powder fields, and wide open groomed runs, all spilling from the Continental Divide. However, after the Winter snows there are three more incredible seasons in the Yampa Valley. With the Spring snow melts, the Yampa River supports kayakers, rafters, canoers, and tubers through the center of town in class II and III rapids. Summertime warm days and cool nights provide the perfect air for jogging, bicycling, fishing, skating, golfing, swimming, horseback riding, water skiing, soaking in the natural hot springs, riding the gondola, and more. Fall colors of changing aspen and oak forests bring people in for scenic drives and hikes, while early snows provide the hunters with excellent elk, deer, and antelope tracking.
